Difficulties and Advantages of Being a Female Poker Player

There are many situations where female gamblers are treated differently than men. Although it’s not true that men are smarter than women, many casinos act like they are. And this is a total advantage for women poker players.
Most of the poker players are men. When a female player does well, it’s not a rare situation to be treated as something special instead of recognizing her abilities in being good at something that has been a male zone for way too long. Poker, as we all know, is a complex game and you need to acknowledge if the opponent is bluffing or not. Players who refuse to recognize your abilities, as a women poker players this is an opportunity to take advantage of. Having a big hand gives you the opportunity to bet more aggressive and win some real money, especially if you play against men players who don’t give you enough credit. Use the bluffing method less, don’t lie and you can get rich.

Top Women Players Today

You can’t be unintelligent and still be so successful in playing poker at the same time. If you are a female, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn how to play poker. So let’s give some more credit to the top women poker players of all time.

  • Vanessa Selbst – She’s the number one female poker player of all time. She graduated at the Yale Law School and was head of the Yale Queer – Straight Alliance. Selbst holds the 41st place of all-time poker players. Not to forget her other achievements, such as her 20 money finishes, 8 final tables, and 2 WPT final tables.   • Kathy Liebert – She is one of the best women poker players in the world. Liebert is a pro-female poker player, also known as PokerKat. She made it to six WPT final tables and a 3rd place finish in the 2005 Borgata Poker Open, has an impressive 47 WSOP money finishes and won a WSOP bracelet in 2004. The highest WSOP Main Event finish she had is in 2000, holding the 17th
  • Liv Boeree – One more impressive female poker player. Boeree already has two very high poker titles – she is a champion in WSOP and EPT Championship. She was also an on-screen reporter at the WSOP, EPT and WSOP Europe. Boeree won the European Poker Awards’ Female Player of the Year in 2014, 2015 and 2016, based on her Global Poker Index points in those years.
  • Jennifer Tilly – An accomplished Hollywood actress which began getting serious about poker in 2005 and she has been a pretty successful female at the poker table since then. In 2005, Tilly won a WSOP bracelet in the Ladies’ No-Limit Texas Hold’Em event and she also won the third WPT Ladies Invitational at California’s Bicycle Casino. She appeared in some poker TV shows – Poker Royale series, Poker Superstars Invitational, Celebrity Poker Showdown and Poker After Dark. She has proven one of the most capable women poker players with her nomination for the Poker Listings Spirit of Poker Living Legend Award in 2014.
  • Shannon Elizabeth – Another actress that is also a very successful female poker player. She made an appearance in the 4th edition of Celebrity Poker Showdown, won the Nicky Hilton New Year’s Eve Poker Tournament celebrating the opening of Caesars Palace’s new poker room. Between 2006 and 2010 Elizabeth cashed in twelve major tournaments. In 2010 she finished 2nd in the WSOP’s Ante Up for Africa Charity Event and her last tournament was in 2013.

Barbara Enright - First Professional Player

Enright learned how to play poker at the age of 4. She was struggling to support her family when she decided that playing poker is going to be her new career. Enright is the first woman to win three WSOP bracelets and the first woman to win an open event at the World Series of Poker. She’s also the first woman inducted in the Poker Hall of Fame and received All-Around Best Player Award in 2000 Legends of Poker tournament. She is the highest finisher among women poker players in the Tournament of Champions. Enright was a part of TV poker series Poker Royale – Battle of the Ages. She is the most accomplished female poker player in the history of poker.
